BIO

Michael Hammerstiel (b. 1987, Neunkirchen, Austria) is an artist working across visual art, music composition, and sound design. Trained in painting and restoration, his practice is shaped by a sustained engagement with material, process, and artistic disciplines, alongside a longstanding focus on sound, acoustics, and music.

Working across analog and digital media, Hammerstiel explores the interplay between sound and image, as well as material and perception. His work investigates how sonic and visual structures can mirror and transform one another, using them to symbolically engage with socially relevant questions.

His practice is characterized by a minimalist approach, inviting the viewer to engage closely and attend to detail.
